Lake Country Lutheran High School coach Cole Braun has placed his athleticism on the line to support his school's new athletics program; he seeks pledges for each mile he completes in Ironman Wisconsin, the physical endurance challenge taking place in Madison on Sept. 9.
Braun will donate all money he raises directly to Lake Country Lutheran's athletic facilities and fields.
His goal is to raise $1,000 for every mile of the 140.6-mile competition, for a total of $140,600. In addition, for each dollar pledged to Cole's effort, and equal dollar amount will be matched by funding form the Victor F. Braun Foundation (VBF).
To pledge toward Braun's success, call Lutheran High School Association of Greater Milwaukee at (414) 421-9100.
"We're grateful to the Victor Braun Foundation for their matching pledge. This VBF match, combined with our $250,000 match challenge, means that donations to Cole's Ironman achievements will have double match pledge value," said Tom Buck, the Lutheran high school association's superintendent of schools.
Braun, 46, is the assistant coach for both boys and girls cross country teams and the boys junior varsity basketball coach for Lake Country Lutheran.
In training for the event all year, Braun declared himself ready after recent success at the 70.3-Mile Marathon in Michigan. "This was my last big tuneup before the race in Madison, andy my time was more than 14 minutes faster than I ran in May this year in Florida at their 70.3 event," said Braun. "It gives me a lot of confidence going into the Ironman."
Ironman Wisconsin is a 2.4-mile swim followed by a 112-mile bike ride followed by a 26.2-mile marathon run, all of which must be completed in less than 17 hours.
"I compete because I can," said Braun. "God blesses our bodies with the opportunity to try challenging things to learn about ourselves and develop skills that can only be taught through the rigors of athletic competition. My contribution is simply to compete."
Braun is active in raising donations for athletic causes, and recently participated in raising $43,320 for the Challenged Athletes Foundation.
"Cole Braun's goal is inspiring," said Buck. "This is a great example of the different ways people can do their part to support the permanent home of Lake Country Lutheran." |
